Newbie to archiving, would appreciate if someone here help

I'm new to archiving and I'm hoping someone can help me here. I have some images that are 6-7GB in sizes. Originally I was going to use winrar to compress and split it into files of 1GB each, but now I'm reconsidering to 100MB due to people saying many more files is better than couple of large files.

Anyways, should I use winrar to split the files or just use Winrar/Winzip to compress the original image and then use quickpar to split the files? Are there any specific features/functions of winrar/winzip that I would want to use or I should just use the default options?

When using Quickpar to make my parity files, how do I determine what block sizes I use? Can I just use the default sizes? When splitting files with Quickpar, I'm assuming the box only accepts values in KB? It's also in binary format too? Like 1 GB=1024 MB? Thanks!

Unless your files are compressible, there is no point using WinZIP or WinRAR to compress and then split them.

Just get QuickPar to split them (whilst it is generating PAR2 files) and leave it at that.

Hi Peter,

I'm archiving my pictures. Are you saying that I should just put the pictures in a folder and then use Winrar to compress it into one .RAR file?

How do I use Quickpar to split them while generating PAR2 files?
