Hi all,
I want to create 1 or 2 par2 file for the files i am backing up to an external hdd. I am thinking just in case i get bad sectors i would like to repair the file (after recovering the file using some program). The most important thing to me is keeping the par2 files as small as possible (don't care how long the process will take).
I've been reading up on older post that talk about keeping the block size a multiple of the cd / dvd media block size. So I'm thinking keeping the block size a multiple of the sector size that i'm using (512bytes - 16k), Does this sound logical? The files that i really don't want to loose are 1gig to 5gig.
So my questions are.
Is my thinking efficient or am i going about this all wrong?
What do i set the source block count to?
What do i set the block size to? ( i haven't had a hdd failure in a while, So from memory if i can recover from about 10 or so bad sectors it would be good. wouldn't it?
What is redundancy best set to for my situation?
I know i can rar/split the files but I'd rather not so i don't have to extract each file before use.
Someone also created a gui for par2 called something like: par2 cd / dvd creator that looked nice but i can't find it anywhere and I've lost the forum i was reading. I think it was done by the creator of par2? anyone have a link or can post it to megaupload or something?
Thanks in Advance ![]()
